WWE 2K23 is almost here and I’m super hyped. It’s clear that there’s going to be a Cena story that will showcase the highlights of his career. There are 10 things we want to see in John Cena’s story in WWE 2K23.
So let’s get to it…
10. His OVW Days

Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) was a developmental promotion that was at one point owned by WWE. John Cena was a notable alumnus of the promotion. You know who else was, Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Randy Orton. There has to be a part of the game that showcases Cena in his OVW days in the game. I mean heck there are already confirmed versions of their characters in the game and if OVW is not included, then it is going to be disappointing.
9. Survivor Series 2014

This one is probably a long shot knowing that many wrestlers in this match are either no longer in the company or working with AEW. However, this was such an awesome match and should have been the true end of The Authority and Cena feud.
While this match was a Dolph Ziggler showcase, Cena’s involvement made this awesome and much more compelling to the story. Worse for worse they probably will just include the feud with The Authority.
8. His First WWE Championship Win Against JBL.

Since JBL has a contract with WWE now that he is managing Baron Corbin on TV, he should be a part of WWE 2K23. At WrestleMania 21 John Cena had a match with JBL for the WWE Championship. This victory started the main event Cena and the first of many reigns with that championship.
That definitely has to go in this game that will focus on the career of John Cena.
7. “Ruthless Aggression”

No question here to include Cena’s debut match with Kurt Angle. It was freaking awesome and this to me truly kicked off the Ruthless Aggression era in WWE. A sign of things to come not only for John Cena but WWE as a whole.
With Kurt Angle being a character in WWE 2K23 it would stun me if this moment/match was not included in the game.
6. Every Moment Of Doctor Of Thuganomics Cena

You can’t have a John Cena Story game without the Doctor of Thuganomics. You just can’t and there were so many memorable moments you can include in this game that focuses on this version of the game.
Unfortunately, WWE can’t include him winning the US title as he won it against The Big Show. The Big Show is currently employed by competitor AEW and it is probably best to have little mention of anybody working for their competitor.
Despite that WWE needs to include this gimmick in the game.
5. His Feud With Randy Orton

One of the most recognizable feuds in his career with WWE was against Randy Orton. It was done so many times, but most of them were all great. I’m not going to say all, as I wasn’t a fan of the Title Unification Feud in 2013 between the two.
However, there are so many points in their long feud that they can replay and I hope they do the Iron Man Match they did at Bragging Rights 2009. Cena vs Orton was a great feud, but it was not his greatest.
4. His Feud with Edge

Yes, I personally believe that Cena’s best feud in WWE was against the Rated R superstar Edge. Almost every match they put on was just fantastic with so many memorable moments. Especially his matches with him at Backlash, SummerSlam, and Unforgiven.
I also want WWE to please include Cena throwing Edge into the Long Island Sound dock. It is so funny and I just want to see the WWE 2k crew include it.
With Edge signed with WWE too, I would be disappointed if he was not in it.
3. His United States Open Challenge Saga

This simply has to be in the game, Cena’s United States Championship reign in 2015-2016 was so awesome. In my opinion, that reign Cena had is one of the best in the title’s history. He went through so many competitors where every week he would do an Open Challenge wanting to be a fighting champion.
He put in some great matches against Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes (then Stardust at the time), Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Zack Ryder (If he comes back with the company), etc. It’s in my opinion the most awesome time that made many really like Cena.
2. His Feud with the Rock

I think one of the main feuds in WrestleMania involving two legends in their respective eras has to be in the Cena Story. I loved the 1st part of the Rock vs Cena Feud up to WrestleMania 28. So many memorable moments/promos that were done by both and the match was done well. Rock still had plenty left in the tank and could still go.
Remember where I stated that I loved the feud up to WrestleMania 28, well WWE decided to do it again at WrestleMania 29. They duped us with the whole “Once in a Lifetime” tagline/advertisement from the last match. Plus the match they had in WrestleMania 29 was sooo boring and one of the worst main events in WrestleMania history.
However, I can’t deny how big this feud was and it will be in the game.
1. His 2008 Royal Rumble Win

No question here as his 2008 Royal Rumble win was fantastic. Especially since he unexpectedly returned after injury. That alone and his eventual matchup with Triple H and Randy Orton.
So, what about the 2013 Royal Rumble?
I wouldn’t be shocked if they skip the 2013 Royal Rumble match knowing Ryback was the person Cena eliminated to win the Rumble. Ryback then burnt his bridges with the company with the way he departed. To be honest, that rumble was terrible and I’m okay with them not including it.
Conclusion:
So those are the main moments that I want to see in the game. I hope we get most if not all included in WWE 2K23. There is only one way to find out, but there are so many more moments I could have included in this list. I can’t wait for this game to come out so I can play Cena’s career. I just wished that I could see him not only in the game but also in the trailers (Sorry, I couldn’t resist).
WWE 2K23 will be released on March 17th, 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
