John Cena joins Bad Bunny and Logan Paul in the new WWE 2K23 trailer, as the man who can’t be seen headlines the latest game as cover athlete.
WWE 2K23 will launch on March 17, 2023, Visual Concepts announced. A new trailer accompanied the launch date announcement, promising new modes and a full roster when the wrestling sim launches.
Cena, one of WWE’s biggest stars ever, returns to the cover for the first time since WWE 2K15. He is the cover athlete for all three versions of the game, each with their bonuses. The two deluxe editions get fans in the action three days early, starting March 14.
WarGames Joins WWE 2K23
WWE 2K23 features the addition of WarGames, which returned to prominence as the main event of the Survivor Series in 2022. The match takes place in two side by side rings, fully enclosed by a steel cage. Making it even more difficult for developers is the timer involved in the match, which allows competitors to join the fray at defined intervals before the match even officially begins.
“Oh my gosh, I have to put two cages in the crowd; then there’s, like, a timer, and these guys come out, and there’s entrances,” said Lynell Jinks, creative director for WWE 2K23 for Visual Concepts. “It scared the hell out of us”.
Other Modes in WWE 2K23
Last year’s WWE 2K22 introduced MyGM, a one-season mode that allows players to build their own roster and manage their own brand – Raw, Smackdown, or NXT – every week and in the premium live events. WWE 2K23 builds on what was a fun but limiting mode in last year’s game with more GMs to choose from, co-op, and more match types.
It’s good news for wrestling fans. I found MyGM in WWE 2K22 to be fun and innovative, but the lack of options in how to run a brand and put on a show made it difficult to want to keep playing. It felt like there had to be endless gimmick matches, and it will be nice to see the creative mode expanded on more in WWE 2K23.
Multiplayer will be coming to the card-collecting game MyFaction for the first time in WWE 2K23. The mode is similar to Ultimate Team modes in other sports games, and in WWE it has the bonus of being a nice way to get changes in wrestlers’ ring attire into the games.
WWE 2K23 is coming March 17, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
