Released on May 27, 2022, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ to the delight of millions of people around the world. After episode 1, many fans already had complaints. The series did eventually find its voice as it progressed, giving viewers a memorable return to grace as Ewan Mcgregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi regained his resolve and his connection to the Force.

It wasn’t just the feels that made the show worth watching, the season finale’s climactic battle gave fans plenty of rewatch factor. Despite having delivered one of the greatest and most complete live-action, force-user duels in Star Wars, some fans were still disappointed. It’s possible the stature and appeal of Ewan Mcgregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi may have been too large for the small screen.

With another decade of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life a mystery, there is plenty of stories to tell. We left Obi-Wan Kenobi on a high note as he finally was able to reconnect to the force. With the appearance of Qui-Gonn Jinn in the series finale, there seems to be a lot more of Obi-Wan‘s growth for fans to appreciate. Though Director Deborah Chow has expressed Obi-Wan Kenobi originally being a limited series, there may yet be some hope.

As of now, season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been greenlit to start production. However, it’s extremely plausible that can change pretty quickly. Ewan McGregor himself has stated he believes Lucasfilm is “just biding its time” to announce Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s season 2.

It’s important to note that Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s debut on the Disney+ streaming service did break viewership records and was the most-watched finale on the service at the time. If we know one thing about Hollywood is that they always go to where the money is, meaning good news for us may still be on its way.
