With the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and its expanded story Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it’s apparent that we will get a follow-up in the form of a true sequel. What we know of the sequel is that the game will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Man, going up against two villains in the form of Venom and Kraven the Hunter. Judging from the trailers, it’s easy to assume that Kraven is the big villain of the game whereas Venom is the antithesis of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spidey.

As mentioned above, the first game was released in 2018 and was met with glowing reviews. Easily one of the best games you could play on PlayStation, a worthy addition to the Sony-exclusive title. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the biggest titles to come out for the PlayStation 5 consoles, and one of the biggest questions surrounding the game is very simple: is this game coming out to PS4? Unfortunately, the answer to that is no.

Spider-Man 2 Won’t Be On PS4

Took more than a year for Spider-Man to swing into PlayStation, but he eventually showed up.

Marvel’s Spider-Man came to the PS4 lineup close to the end of the PS4’s run. Insomniac Games has been straightforward about this game “pushing the capabilities of the PS5,” as the new console is significantly more powerful than its predecessor. To compare two Insomniac titles, the difference between Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man, is night and day as far as quality goes. The former was designed for the PS5, whereas the latter was intended for the PS4 but also released for the PS5. Removing games on both consoles hampers developers and causes more drawbacks than opportunities for fun to grow.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, exclusive to Sony’s flagship console, is an intelligent play as Insomniac can take full advantage of the PS5’s power. Since the console’s debut in 2020, there haven’t been many games that have come out to just the PS5 alone: Astro’s Playroom, Returnal, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Adding Spider-Man’s next adventure to that library is a nice treat for next-gen console owners as this game will be able to take full advantage of the quick load times that Sony promises for the PS5 as well as the capability of running games at a full 60 frames per second for the pure buttery smooth greatness. Allowing gamers to have their next adventure as Spider-Man as a PS5 exclusive is a great way to pass the baton to the next generation.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches in Fall 2023 on PS5.
