The Ghost crew is back in Ahsoka. The show, which began streaming on Disney+ on August 22, features the return of beloved characters like Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Chopper (Dave Filoni) as they continue the fight to protect the galaxy. After hearing rumors that their former adversary Grand Admiral Thrawn is still alive, the group embarks on a mission to prevent him from returning to power.

Of course, that proves easier said than done since their search for Thrawn leads Ahsoka and the others to come into contact with several other powerful enemies, including a pair of Dark Jedi named Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). One familiar villain the group also goes up against is Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto). She previously appeared in the second season of The Mandalorian. While we may have thought she was just another villain of the week at the time, it’s become clear her role in the Star Wars universe is much greater than that. So, who is Morgan Elsbeth? Let me explain.

What Happened to Morgan Elsbeth in The Mandalorian?

In The Mandalorian episode titled “The Jedi,” Ahsoka and Morgan are introduced as enemies. Ahsoka tracks down Morgan since she has valuable information the Jedi is after, which is later revealed to be Thrawn’s location. During the episode, we learn Morgan was the Magistrate of Calodan on the planet Corvus. She ruthlessly ruled over the people there and didn’t care if they suffered. Morgan hired the Mandalorian Din Djarin to kill Ahsoka, but they became allies instead and worked together to stop Morgan. After she was defeated, Ahsoka was successfully able to get the intel she wanted from Morgan, who was then arrested by the New Republic for being an Imperial sympathizer.

Who is Morgan Elsbeth in Ahsoka?

In Ahsoka, Morgan is imprisoned in a New Republic transport while she’s waiting to head to trial. Before she can pay for her crimes, she’s broken out by Baylan and Shin, who are working as mercenaries. Later in the episode, the trio, along with former Inquisitor Marrok, visit an ancient temple on the planet Arcana. The stronghold has a map that leads to Thrawn, which Ahsoka is successfully able to obtain.

While Morgan is looking at the remnants of the temple, she’s revealed to be a member of the Nightsisters. The group was a coven of witches that resided on the planet Dathomir. Most Nightsisters were killed in a massacre during the Clone Wars, which makes Morgan one of the only survivors.

What Is Morgan Elsbeth’s Connection to Thrawn?

Morgan and Thrawn are allies. She considers him her master and will do everything she can to see him return to power. So, when Ahsoka gets hold of the map, Morgan teams up with Baylan and Shin to stop the Jedi from reaching him before they do.

So, who will get to him first? It seems we’ll just have to wait and find out.
