In a recent tweet from Respawn, the developers of Apex Legends, it has been stated of their recent research into skill-based matchmaking balances. Matchmaking balances are critical to an online multiplayer games success, it allows players to be fairly matched with others of the same skill. Often, skilled players will make new accounts on a game to benefit from lower skilled players ability and gain more kills making lobbies unfair and not enjoyable for new players.

However, in a recent tweet Respawn showcased how the changes they have made have benefited the community. According to this tweet the changes have been made already to ‘one region’ and with the data now collected, the results can be analyzed and how they will affect the game can be showcased.

From the pink line shown on the graph it can be seen that once these changes were implemented a huge difference in the number of players with a kill can be seen. Region A and B, the blue and green lines on the graph have not seen this change due to these regions not currently receiving the same change.

Despite this, with these changes being now proven to have worked in the way Respawn intended it won’t be long before we see these changes in other regions. It is likely that we see these changes come into effect when the split occurs on the 17th of January.

What Does It Mean For You?

All of us love the feeling of that first kill, so this update to skill-based matchmaking will be a welcome addition to gameplay. If you’re a highly skilled player wanting to test your ability or if you’re a new player fed up with being pushed and unable to beat your opposition. This is also a perfect time to catch up with the latest addition to the Apex Legends roster and use the new Apex Legends Catalyst legend introduced in season 15.

Apex Legends is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox one and Xbox Series X|S
