In traditional RPG game fashion, Hogwarts Legacy has devised a leveling system used to help players progress further into the story based on the experience they gain while playing. Unfortunately, as a fresh fifth-year student at Hogwarts, we don’t start with an advanced knowledge of spells and skills like our peers. As a result, we start at a disadvantage, and as such, we need to do some extra coursework to get up to speed before the end of the year.

Luckily, the homework in Hogwarts Legacy is a lot more fun than what we brought home from school every day.

Hogwarts Legacy Max Level

Don’t let the idea of extra homework deter you from getting the most out of what you can from Hogwarts. All the homework assignments and other side quests help you learn about your new school and beyond, allowing you to explore everything you can while getting rewarded for it. Of course, like other RPG games, you can reach a maximum level cap, but you will still need to get the most out of this game.

The level caps out at 40, the cutoff for all the enemies you encounter in the game. There are multiple different ways you can get to this point. Between slaying spiders, finding chests, casting Revelio to find points of interest, and plucking pages from the sky with Accio, you are bound to become the top of your class. There are many other ways you can gain experience to level up, which comes the more you explore the grounds of Hogwarts and beyond in Hogwarts Legacy. Each way you gain experience has its perks and helps you, as a player, learn the game’s mechanics and how to use the spells in your arsenal. Those who have purchased the Dark Arts pack can fight in the Dark Arts arena for extra experience and receive other bonuses like gold and loot.

The level you choose to enter different missions relies on your comfortability with the combat system and your bond with your wand. Players who find it easy to slay their enemies perhaps won’t have to grind out levels before each mission, but those who might be new to RPG games and are playing more for the story might find it easier to stop their enemies faster by going in at a higher level.

You don’t need to hit level 40 to complete the main story (the main storyline gets you to level 25), but the final post-game mission requires you to be at level 34. If you have yet to hit this level by the time you reach this point, be sure to complete a ton of side quests and cast Revelio to find those pages hidden worldwide. There is much to see and do, fellow witches and wizards! Get to it!

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Expect to see it on PS4 and Xbox One on April 4th, and on the Switch, July 25th.
