Fall is that cozy time of year where the world turns shades of yellow, red, and orange, and things seem to slow down a bit before the holidays. This makes it the perfect time to get invested in some new games that make you just want to curl up on the couch with a fuzzy blanket. Be warned, though– you may want to keep the lights on for some of the games on this list!
1. Stardew Valley
This game is THE fall game. Overall, Stardew Valley is so lovely and calming that it exemplifies the slower vibe of the season. The game’s style has an amazing, cozy charm! Players experience spring, summer, and winter as well, but with the crops, festivals, and scenery, this is definitely the most exciting one to experience. It’s a pumpkin spice latte in a game!
2. Mario Kart
Two words– Maple Treeway. This course is the ultimate fall experience. The version on the Wii is so classic and just does it best, but with the orange trees, cute but annoying Wigglers in the open field, and rich brown log tunnels, all renditions encapsulate the most comfy and vivid parts of the season. Don’t forget to be on the lookout for the course’s many shortcuts!
3. Five Nights At Freddy’s 4
The frightening animatronic gang we love to hate is here in this game that takes on a completely different location from the previous three installments. The loading screen alone is so perfectly haunting that it certainly gets player’s in the mood for October’s spookiest day. Pair that with the game’s Halloween update, and you have a winner. If you haven’t played this one yet, it may time to give it a download and enjoy some seasonal spooks!
4. Bear And Breakfast
This game is as cozy as it gets! Enjoy some time in the woodlands with new friends as you play as a bear named Hank who seeks to build up his bed and breakfast. The atmosphere is so calming that you can really just take your time here and relax with a warm beverage. There is something to be said for the walks in the woodlands to collect materials in order to make yours the best bed and breakfast in town!
5. Luigi’s Mansion
The classic game about the greener Mario brother getting in over his head at a mansion that holds haunted secrets is a must for this time of year. I mean, the goal here is literally to defeat the ghosts that linger around the many rooms of this gigantic dwelling. Your playground in this game is dark hallways. Although Luigi may very well be more spooked than you are playing this game, it has the right atmosphere for those dark and stormy nights.
6. Sims 4 (With Seasons expansion)
There is something chillingly thrilling about when fall rolls around in your Sims 4 let’s play. Leaves drift from the trees in rake-able piles. It’s the perfect time to send your sims out for a walk in the scenery or just over to the nearest cozy spot in town. With this expansion pack, you can even make your own holidays! Halloween isn’t programmed in the game, but the spooky décor items and seasonal activities that come with the pack lend themselves to a spooky celebration of your design!
7. Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town
There’s something about fall and farming games that go so well together. Similar to Stardew Valley, this game is a wonderful way to experience a warm and cozy autumnal landscape– this time in 3d. The cuteness of the animals in this game is NOT to be missed! After your seasonal farming, head into town and have a cozy meet-and-greet with some of the many villagers. Not quite fall in your game but you still want to experience the fun? Head over to your own unlockable seasonal garden and bask in the joys of the season there!
8. Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Three days to save the world– sound like the start to a perfect adventure, right? Between the sunset feel that this game gives off, and the hauntingly creepy moon that hangs above, this game has the ideal mix of cozy and spooky that just makes sense for fall. If you’re like me, this game will take you a while, so it’s the perfect game to settle down to play when the weather gets chilly.
9. Poppy Playtime
This game is definitely not about strolling through a field of poppies. Not for the faint of heart, this spooky franchise is about a toy factory gone wrong. Theorists will love trying to discover the story lying within the walls of this scary facility, and people who simply like a good jump scare won’t be disappointed either. When the chilly weather comes out, so do the thrills of this game.
10. Penko Park
This game provides the perfect element of mystery and mystique that the cooler months almost call for. Your job is to wander through an abandoned wildlife park and discover the strange creatures that lie within. The moody landscape and spookiness of the critters make this a perfect fall game. Don’t forget your camera to capture stunning images of the critters you discover.
Overall, whether you like to be spooked or just want to feel cozy, fall is the perfect time to get invested in a new game! Farming games take you right to a pumpkin patch of your own design, and the spooky games and franchises pair perfectly with this time of year! You’re bound to find your next cozy favorite! Happy gaming!
