Fighting game fans are eagerly awaiting the official release of Tekken 8. With Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6 out this year, it is uncertain whether Tekken 8 will launch in 2023. Aside from the Tekken 8 beta which went live last month and the evident excitement of eager players, Bandai Namco has been pretty reserved in the promotional content they’ve put out regarding the release.  The only information we have currently is a few characters available in the base roster, a sense of the new arenas we’ll be fighting in, some new and returning gameplay mechanics, and the platforms on which the game will become available.

Tekken 8 is coming to PS5, Xbox series X|S, and PC. In addition, it has also been confirmed that Tekken 8 will be entirely cross-platform so regardless of which console you and your friends have, you will be able to duke it out in the ring. Also, Tekken 8 will feature a rollback netcode, a huge improvement over Tekken 7’s previous online. This will ensure that Tekken 8 will lead to more stable connections when playing online.

Tekken 8 Gameplay

As far as gameplay, Harada stated during an interview with IGN that “the key word to relay the concept for the battle system is aggressiveness.” Fighting games go hand in hand with aggression so expect Tekken 8 to be fast-paced and hard-hitting, with the introduction of new mechanics and the reintroduction of fan favorites. In the same interview, Harada continued to state that “It’s not just important that a game could be fun for the person playing it. It has to look fun to play to captivate and bring in new people.” With that said, the gameplay might be the most technical and most aggressive we have experienced in a Tekken title to date.
