Earlier in the year, Polygon broke the news that a God of War-inspired video game based on TMNT: The Last Ronin would be coming out for current-gen consoles. The game will be based on the comic of the same name, which tells the story of a lone Turtle on a revenge mission to kill the grandson of Shredder, who is responsible for killing his three brothers. This comic event also marked the first collaboration between Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in years.
Today during their August 2023 digital showcase, THQ Nordic, the developers behind Destroy All Humans!, announced that they will be developing the game by revealing a small teaser trailer that gives us a taste of what we can expect from this dark tale.
What is The Last Ronin?
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are no strangers to video game adaptations in their nearly 40-year history; each console generation has seen its fair share of TMNT games. But this will mark the first RPG of the franchise. The story and setting are rich in details. And as a fan of both TMNT and God of War, making The Last Ronin story similar to God of War in mechanics/tone is very fitting.
There isn’t a release date for TMNT: The Last Ronin, though it is expected to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For more on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in gaming, I highly recommend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, which is available on all consoles.
