Weapon customization is one of the essential mechanics in Starfield that will aid you in combat, allowing you to adapt to multiple playstyles. The customization system will be familiar to those who have played Bethesda’s 2018 Post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 4. Here is all we know about weapon customization.

Research in Starfield

“Before being able to modify weapons in Starfield, you must first research them Via the “weaponry” tab of the Research Laboratory. Multiple research projects can be unlocked using materials commonly found throughout the game, such as iron, nickel, and sealant. Each research project unlocks the ability to craft more mods. “Before being able to modify weapons, you must first research them Via the “weaponry” tab of the Research Laboratory. There are a couple of things to keep in mind regarding weapon customization. First, you can only research four projects in each of the five categories (e.g., Pharmacology, Equipment, Weaponry, etc.) at a time. Secondly, there will be a progress bar, like Digital Extreme’s Warframe, meaning that you will have to wait a certain amount of time for the research to conclude.

So Many Weapon Modifications

There is a total of seven gun parts that can be modified, including the receiver, internals, optics, muzzle, magazine and battery, and the muzzle. The type and size of a weapon determine how many mods slots it has. For instance, the Drum Beat has seven mod slots. Building mods, like research, will also require a set of materials.

Mods will have various effects on your guns, such as adding a pistol silencer and increasing the size of a gun’s magazine, thus expanding the ammo capacity, to giving more ammo types, such as explosive or armor-piercing rounds. As of yet, there hasn’t been confirmation of modifying the melee weapons found in Starfield, but it’s safe to say that it will work just the same.

There is much more to the upcoming Sci-fi RPG, including factions and an in-depth combat system.

Starfield is available September 6th, on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
