The Star Wars High Republic’s Phase 2 has officially kicked off. But getting up to date may feel overwhelming for those who need to catch up on all the action. Phase 1 of the High Republic was an action-packed roller-coaster filled with new settings, drama, characters, and lore for all of us force-users. So, it’s only natural to feel overwhelmed with over 30 entries into the first phase of the colossal multimedia project.

Now then, what should you read? I would recommend reading it all, in due time, of course. However, many of us just don’t have the time. For the rest of us, we don’t know where to start. Don’t worry, though, here are the essential reads you need to get the best out of Phase 1.

The Light of the Jedi

Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule busts out its seams with essential details. This novel is about the Great Disaster and the Jedi response. The Light of the Jedi was the High Republic’s introduction to the world and a great introduction to the High Republic. I recommend starting with this novel to start your High Republic journey.

The High Republic Comics by Marvel

Star Wars the high republic vol 1, jedi ,

The High Republic comics by Marvel are a fun, action-packed ride. I recommend this series as it involves the Nihil and is a great way to get to know the Jedi of the time, like Keeve Trennis and Avar Kriss.

Into the Dark

Into the Dark by Claudia Gray is one of my High Republic favorites. After being forced to exit hyperspace and finding themselves on an abandoned space station, a group of Jedi attempt to find their footing. However, the decisions they make may affect the entire High Republic era.

The Rising Storm

This entry on our list can be seen as a sequel to Light of the Jedi and is just as good. Though to be honest it may be a bit more intense but in a good way. The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott will have you a bit speechless by its completion and its story is vital to all the High Republic hijinx.

The Fallen Star

The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray is a perfectly paced novel full of quotable lines. Brace yourself for the return of the Nihil as most of the story takes place on Starlight Beacon. This novel is more than essential to the High Republic narrative, and it shows a more human side to the Jedi involved as they try their best to beat the odds.

The Eye of the Storm Part 1 and 2

The final essential read is the Eye of the Storm by Charles Soule and Marvel comics. Dive into the origins of Marchion Ro, the main antagonist of Phase 1 of the High Republic and leader of the Nihil. These entries are highly important to the High Republic Phase 1 arc. I would recommend reading Eye of the Storm part 2 last out of all of the entries.

Path of Deceit

Path of Deceit by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland officially marks the beginning of Phase 2. This takes place 150 years before the events of phase 1. Follow padawan Kevmo Zink and his master Zallah Macri on a mission to the planet Dalna, where a mysterious cult-like organization has plans to expand into the galaxy. The events of this entry are crucial to the main plot of Phase 2 and are a definite must-read.
