Star Wars newest novel Jedi Battle Scars by Sam Maggs prepares to reunite us with a fan favorite. Here’s everything we know about Jedi Battle Scars as its release date looms closer and closer.

Return of the Jedi

Cal Kestis returns to continue his story in Sam Maggs’s new novel. However, he isn’t alone as the Stinger Mantis crew consisting of Cere Junda, Nightsister Merrin, Greez Dritus, BD-1, and the adorable Bogling, join him. The rag-tag crew of characters transition to book format in this brand-new story set to knock our socks off.

When Does It Take Place?

Star wars, jedi battle scars, jedi fallen order, stinger mantis crew

Jedi Fallen Order ends with Cal Kestis destroying Jedi Master Eno Cordova’s Holocron to protect the force-sensitive children scattered throughout the galaxy. The events of Jedi Battle Scars take place in the five-year gap after this event and before the events of the Jedi Survivor game set to release later this year.

Author Sam Maggs opted to keep much of the new story’s details close to her chest, leaving us somewhat in the dark. Though, the publisher’s summary gives us fans a gist of what the Stinger Mantis crew has been up to. Here’s what it says:

Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal’s crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More importantly, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy’s future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire, the Mantis crew grows more daring.

On what should be a routine mission, they meet a stormtrooper determined to chart her own course with the help of Cal and the crew. In exchange for help starting a new life, the Imperial deserter brings word of a powerful, potentially invaluable tool for their fight against the Empire. And even better, she can help them get to it. The only catch – pursuing it will bring them into the path of one of the Empire’s most dangerous servants, the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.

Can the Imperial deserter truly be trusted? And while Cal and his friends have survived run-ins with the Inquisitors before, how many times can they evade the Empire before their luck runs out?

With this small summary, it’s safe to assume the Stinger Mantis crew never stopped their assault on the empire and are looking to turn up the heat. We can only hope the imperial deserter is trustworthy but of course, when it comes to the galaxy far, far, away, you never know.

Vengeance Is Sweet

It will be interesting to see how Cal Kestis’s and Nightsister Merrin’s character arc progresses. For Cal especially, as his desire for vengeance against the empire may conflict with his path as a Jedi. His desire to protect his newfound family coupled with his hate toward the empire may be too much to handle. I can’t wait to find out how his state of mind affects the overall story. There’s a very real possibility he may tread the same path as Cere’s former padawan, the second sister.

Battle Scars Audiobook Excerpt

The exclusive audiobook excerpt begins from Nightsister Merrin’s point of view. We get an insight into her inner thoughts, the weight of the loss she carries with her, and its effect on her. Daphimir stays at the forefront of her mind, fueling her rage against the empire as she deals with the poor souls who cross her path. In this excerpt, we get an important meeting that sets the tone for the rest of the story.

That’s everything we know about Star Wars Jedi Battle Scars for now.
