The following is a collection of Star Wars books and comics about Anakin Skywalker. If you’re curious to learn more about his life beyond the movies and TV series, feel free to use this as a checklist to read all of the most popular stories about the iconic Jedi Knight.

“One day, I will become the greatest Jedi ever. I will even learn how to stop people from dying.”

Anakin Skywalker

Darth Vader is not only one of the most popular villains in Star Wars, but one of the greatest movie antagonists of all time. His theme song — “The Imperial March” — is instantly recognizable across generations, as well as his signature breathing sound, which never fails to evoke fear. However, before Darth Vader became a fearsome enemy, he was a well-loved Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker who fought for the good of the galaxy.

As a child, Anakin exhibited a strong connection to the force, which is why Qui-Gon Jinn was going to take him in as his apprentice. Since Qui-Gon fell at the hands of Darth Maul before he could begin Anakin’s training, his Jedi Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, became Anakin’s master instead. Over the years, the pair became as close as brothers.

During the Clone Wars era, we also saw Anakin develop a romantic relationship with Padmé Amidala, who was the Queen of Naboo before she became the planet’s devoted Senator. Although Jedi were forbidden from forming attachments, Anakin and Padmé were able to keep their relationship a secret from everyone for years — or so they thought. In the shadows, Darth Sidious (and future Emperor) was creating a plan to turn Anakin’s love for Padmé against him. Sidius was determined to make Anakin fall to the dark side in order to recruit him as his new Sith apprentice. In the end, his plan worked, resulting in the rise of Darth Vader.
