The Last of Us was released on June 14, 2013, introducing us to Joel and Ellie, on their journey in a world ravaged by a fungal virus. The Last of Us proved time and time again worthy of the praise its fans gave to its story and world. With numerous remasters, a sequel, and a remake, The Last of Us series had a streak that wouldn’t falter.

So when there were rumors of a possible multiplayer game based upon the Last of Us universe, The Last of Us Online, the fans watched their newsfeed for every possible piece of info. Unfortunately, we will never see it.

The Last of Us Online Canceled

In a blog post on their official website, they waste no time in explaining why the game will no longer be developing. The studio was happy with the development and enthusiastic about the game. Unfortunately, they realized the realities of most multiplayer-only games, most of their resources and manpower from the studio would be required to work and keep the game up to date. Wrapping up their announcement, they appreciated their employees’ dedication to the project. They also revealed they are working on multiple single-player games that they can’t wait to share when they are ready.

The Last of Us is available on PS3 and PS4 Remastered.
