MLB The Show 24 is nearly here, and I’m incredibly excited for its release. One of the highlights of last year’s game was the inclusion of the Negro Leagues, which delved into the rich history of the Negro Leagues and featured numerous top players from that era. Many fans were curious about how MLB The Show would continue to showcase the Negro Leagues in the upcoming installment.

It has been revealed that there will indeed be a Negro Leagues Edition of the game. Moreover, it was announced that the Negro Leagues will receive a Season 2 in MLB The Show 24 of storylines involving more players in the league.

Which Players Will Be involved in Season 2?

As of now, there are 4 players that are going to be available to play when the game releases.

  • Josh Gibson – “The Black Babe Ruth”
  • Buck Leonard – “Baseball’s Greatest Fastball Hitter”
  • Hank Aaron- “The Hammer”
  • Toni Stone – “The Trailblazer”

It’s about time Josh Gibson was involved with the Negro League mode in MLB The Show, as he was the biggest omission from last year’s game. Now we get to experience his story in the game, as he is arguably the best player to have ever played in the Negro Leagues.

He accomplished so much during his time in the Negro Leagues, even winning the Triple Crown twice. It’s hard enough to achieve the Triple Crown once, but Gibson did it twice. Additionally, he was a 12-time All-Star, 3-time Negro League Batting Champion, and a 2-time Negro World Series winner. His story is the one I am excited to play from the bunch, and I am also intrigued by the stories of Buck Leonard and Hank Aaron.

Out of the available storylines, I am most excited about Toni Stone’s. She has an incredible story that deserves more recognition, but unfortunately hasn’t received as much attention as it should. With her inclusion in MLB The Show’s Season 2, I’m thrilled that her story will finally be highlighted and celebrated.

What About the Players in Season 1 of The Negro Leagues?

Jackie Robinson MLB The Show

Here is some good news, all the players from Season 1 of Storylines of the Negro Leagues in MLB the Show 23, will be included in MLB The Show 24. As a reminder those players in Season 1 are the players listed below.

  • John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil
  • Hank Thompson
  • Hilton Smith
  • Jackie Robinson
  • John Donaldson
  • Leroy “Satchel” Paige
  • Martin Dihigo
  • Andrew “Rube” Foster

I really enjoyed playing the 1st Season of the Negro Leagues and was one of my favorite additions towards last years game. To play with all of those characters again is super cool. The best parrt as well is it seems MLB The Show is going to keep expanding upon the Negro Leagues in this years game. The plan is also to add even more Negro League players in April/May. I wonder which new players will be avaible to play in the newer updates.

I like how MLB The Show is handling the Negro Leagues in their video games. With the partnership between MLB The Show and The Negro League Museum, there is going to be more of this type of content in these games in the future. That is awesome because there were some phenomenal players who played in the Negro Leagues, and they deserve the recognition for how great they were.

MLB The Show 24 is coming March 19th, 2023 on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
