Go ahead, take your time. I’ll wait. Saying goodbye can be the hardest thing to do, and if you play MLB The Show 23, you just said goodbye to a lot of your best Diamond Dynasty players. You’ll miss Mike Trout and Fernando Tatis patrolling the outfield, and Trea Turner tearing up the basepaths. We all will. The good news is that Season 3 is here, and that means a whole bunch of new rewards to get your hands on and make you forget all about how you can’t use 99 Overall Mike Trout anymore.

Season 3 is actually packed with great content, including a couple of must-have cards. Additionally, Sony San Diego has learned from Season 2, and it is much easier to grind for a good team in Season 3. The grind won’t be as tedious, and there are some really great cards that aren’t hidden behind any type of paywall.

Season 3 and Set 3 in MLB The Show 23

The beginning of Season 3 means that your Season 1 cards are now ineligible to be included in your lineup for Ranked Seasons and most Events. Most Ranked Seasons lineups will likely suffer a but for at least a couple of weeks — until players have all had time to earn some of the new 99 Overall players. Season 3 lasts 55 days, so you will have plenty of time to earn a ton of good stuff. Season 3 will end on August 31.

Diamond Dynasty often centers around different themes, and Season 3 in MLB The Show 23 is all about the All-Star Game. We won’t see any more Kaiju or Incognito cards to earn – instead, it will be All-Star and Home Run Derby cards, from both this year and years past.

There are some really great rewards that can be earned in Season 3, so use this guide to find out where they are and how to get them.

MLB The Show 23 Season 3 Featured Program

MLB The Show 23 Set 3 Bosses

The Featured Program in MLB The Show 23 Season 3 rewards players for gaining XP in any game mode, from Franchise to Diamond Dynasty. It has 42 different levels, each of which has a pack, cosmetic item, or stubs as the reward. To get all 42 levels, you will need to earn 650,000 XP before August 31.

Early levels are loaded with Captain cards and player equipment, all of it All-Star themed. If you also play Road to the Show or have a Create-A-Player in Diamond Dynasty, some of that should prove to be pretty useful.

Along the way, you’ll be able to earn four National League All-Star choice packs and four American League All-Star choice packs. There are seven players in each pack, so you’ll have to be a little strategic with what you pick since you won’t be able to get them all.

Here’s what’s in each pack:

American League Choice Pack

The American League Choice Pack contains:

  • Brent Rooker, LF, Oakland Athletics — 97 OV
  • Josh Jung, 3B, Texas Rangers — 97 OV
  • Kenley Jansen, CP, Boston Red Sox — 97 OV
  • Michael Lorenzen, SP, Detroit Tigers — 97 OV
  • Mike Trout, CF, Los Angeles Angels — 97 OV
  • Yordan Alvarez, LF, Houston Astros — 97 OV
  • Gerrit Cole, SP, New York Yankees — 97 OV

National League Choice Pack

The National League Choice Pack Contains:

  • Devin Williams, CP, Milwaukee Brewers — 97 OV
  • Elias Diaz, C, Colorado Rockies — 97 OV
  • Josh Hader, CP, San Diego Padres — 97 OV
  • Justin Steele, SP, Chicago Cubs — 97 OV
  • Nolan Arenado, 3B, St Louis Cardinals — 97 OV
  • Orlando Arcia, SS, Atlanta Braves — 97 OV
  • Josiah Gray, SP, Washington Nationals — 97 OV

Season 3 Bosses

The Season 3 Boss Pack contains:

  • Joc Pederson, CF, Los Angeles Dodgers — 99 OV
  • Mike Cameron, CF, Seattle Mariners, — 99 OV
  • Zac Gallen, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks — 99 OV
  • Marcus Semien, 2B, Texas Rangers — 99 OV
  • Buck O’Neill, 1B, Nego Leagues (Jin Kim Series) — 99 OV

As was the case in Season 2, once you have reached 650,000 XP, you’re not done! You can keep earning rewards for every 25,000 additional XP you earn. The rewards range from 7,500 stubs all they way up to additional Chase Packs from Season 3.

Ranked Seasons

Ranked Seasons is kicking off Season 3 with a 5-week season, meaning there will be two Ranked Seasons runs in Season 3. Ranked Seasons players can earn a World Series Choice Pack by either earning a rating of 900 in Ranked Seasons, or by earning 100 program stars in the Ranked Seasons program.

As in Season 2, the World Series reward in the Ranked Seasons program will be non-sellable in the marketplace. If you want to be able to sell the Boss reward, you’ll have to earn it by achieving a rating of 900 or better.

The World Series rewards for the first round of Ranked Seasons in Season 3 are all pretty incredible, and tough choices will have to be made. Your choices will be:

  • Sean Murphy, C, Atlanta Braves — 99 OV
  • Satchel Paige, Pitcher, Negro Leagues (Jin Kim Series) — 99 OV
  • Juan Soto, LF, San Diego Padres — 99 OV

Each of these cards will help almost any lineup, but it seems like it will be really hard to pass up on that Juan Soto card — especially with another elite Set 3 catcher out there to get for MLB The Show 23 players.

Team Affinity

The grind is back in Season 3, as MLB The Show 23 Team Affinity 3 takes center stage with 30 new cards for you to earn. As in Season 2, there is one player per team, and you will earn choice packs by division.

You earn Choice Packs for Team Affinity 2 at the following XP levels:

  • 60,000 XP
  • 80,000 XP
  • 110,000 XP
  • 130,000 XP
  • 150,000 XP

The primary way to earn Team Affinity XP is to play games with players from those respective divisions. For every 2000 PXP you accumulate for an individual team (i.e. Yankees, Padres, etc), you will earn 5000 Team Affinity XP in that teams division program.

You can earn bonus XP by completing the Conquest and Showdown for each set of divisions (East, Central, and West). You can also earn A LOT of Team Affinity XP by doing either March to October or Mini Seasons, but beware that each of those is a larger time investment.

New in Season 3 is Boss card PXP, where you will earn Team Affinity XP for playing with the TA bosses you’ve already earned.

As in Season 1, every boss player is 97 OV. This is a bit of a disappointment, given how easy it is already to construct a 99 OV team. Many of the players you grind for in Team Affinity 2 won’t make your team better.

Every one of the following Team Affinity 3 bosses is from the All-Star or Home Run Derby series:

  • AL East – Jonathan Schoop, Jim Rice, Gary Sanchez, Charlie Morton, Troy Glaus
  • NL East – Mike Soroke, Dee Strange-Gordon, Noah Syndergaard, Raul Ibanez, Trea Turner
  • AL Central – Paul Konerko, Larry Doby, Max Scherzer, Salvador Perez, Torii Hunter
  • NL Central – Kris Bryant, Jesse Winker, Jesus Aguilar, Josh Bell, Ryan Ludwick
  • AL West – J.R. Richard, Tommy La Stella, Liam Hendricks, Mitch Haniger, Joey Gallo
  • NL West – Jake Lamb, David Dahl, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Jake Peavy, Vida Blue

New in Season 3 is a collection for Team Affinity — and you’ll want to make absolute sure that you get the reward. Trust me, it’s worth the grind. When you collect every card in Team Affinity 3, you’ll get none other than a 99-Overall Corbin Carroll.

  • Collect 15 TA 3 cards: 95 OV Freddie Freeman Captain Card
  • Collect 20 TA 3 cards: 95 OV Spencer Strider Captain Card
  • Collect 30 TA 3 cards: 99 OV Shane McClanahan
  • Collect 50 TA 3 cards: 99 OV Luis Arraez
  • Collect 70 TA 3 cards: 99 OV Matt Olson
  • Collect 80 TA 3 cards: 99 OV Jose Ramirez
  • Collect 90 TA 3 cards: 99 OV Corbin Carroll

MLB The Show 23 Season 3 Collection

Sony San Diego changed the way collections work in MLB The Show 23. In past years, collections had different tiers added to them as the year progressed, and earning enough tickets would earn you the player that corresponds to that tier. If that sounds confusing, forget it, because collections don’t work that way anymore.

Now, each season in MLB The Show 23 has its own collection. All you have to do is collect Set 3 cards that are 90 OV and better – so you probably don’t want to sell any if you want to get the best rewards in the game.

Further changing things up this year are Collection Choice Packs. Instead of only having one player to work toward, now there are three. When you hit different levels in your collection progress, you’ll earn your choice of the three bosses. And yes, you can earn all three players if you collect enough cards.

You’ll earn Choice Packs at 150, 230, and 300 Set 3 cards collected. Along the way to 160, you’ll get a few more pretty great cards as well:

  • 50 cards – Alexis Diaz, CP, Cincinnati Reds, 99 OV
  • 90 cards – Hilton Smith, SP, Negro Leagues (Jin Kim Series), 99 OV
  • 120 cards – Jackie Robinson, 2B, Negro Leagues (Jin Kim Series), 99 OV
  • 190 cards – Austin Riley, 3B, Atlanta Braves, 99 OV

Once you get the first Choice Pack, you will choose from:

  • Adley Rutschman, C, Baltimore Orioles, 99 OV
  • Ronald Acuna Jr, RF, Atlanta Braves, 99 OV
  • Martin Dihigo, P, Negro Leagues (Jin Kim Series), 99 OV
