Back during 2000 to 2015, readers explored Ultimate Marvel comics:  various title releases intended to modernize classic MCU characters for the new millennium.  Marvel’s goal was to bring attention back to their lineup of superheroes and eight years later their team has returned for another “reset” of sorts.  New origin stories and contemporary themes under the Ultimate Universe umbrella are sure to be entertaining.

There are layers of reasons to get excited for Marvel relaunching the Ultimate Universe by comic veterans such as Jonathan Hickman, Stefano Caselli and Bryan Hitch.  Following the explosive events in the recently released Ultimate Invasion, Marvel has more titles with the Ultimate Universe name set to land on stands near you. Here are some brief publisher synopses and announced titles to help track down copies for your collection:

ULTIMATE UNIVERSE #1

Ultimate Universe Comic #1_2024

Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Art by STEFANO CASELLI
Colors by DAVID CURIEL
Cover by BRYAN HITCH

Publisher summary: “THE SPOILS OF VICTORY! After the worlds-shaking conclusion of ULTIMATE INVASION, a new team of heroes bands together to save the future!”

This title has already been released this year and is described as the foundational title to begin reading for the Ultimate Universe relaunch.  I also recommend also checking out Ultimate Invasion for even more world building to better grasp what brings Thor, Lady Sif and others together here.  Well, understand as best as possible until the next release.

Ultimate Spiderman #1 Comic_2024

ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN #1
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Art and Cover by MARCO CHECCHETTO
On Sale January 10th, 2024

This iteration of Peter Parker leaves him bitten by a radioactive spider – not as a teenager, but an adult.  Even more so, a fully grown man with two children married to his sweetheart Mary Jane Watson.  (Now that I’m married with children, I can only imagine how complex day to day challenges become with super powers.)

Publisher preview: “When we decided that we were going to do a book about an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man, we really wanted to lean into him starting his super hero life from a very different place than what’s traditionally expected,” Hickman explained. “Peter and MJ being married is one of many decisions we made that underline this being quite a ‘different’ kind of Spider-Man story.”

In response, the lone bulwark against them, the isolated nation of Wakanda, will send forth its champion…its king…the Black Panther!”

Ultimate X-Men #1_2024

ULTIMATE X-MEN #1

“Visionary creator Peach Momoko reinvents mutant-kind for the Ultimate age! Meet a new generation of mutants, filled with original and familiar X-Men characters. Together, they’ll learn what it means to be mutant in the Ultimate Universe as they explore their emerging powers and the startling ways they connect to folklore, legend, and magic!”

~All in all, a lot has changed for Marvel and our real world since 2015. While the first run of Ultimate Marvel was likely intended to attract newer (okay, maybe younger) readers, long time readers have a lot to look forward to! Once more, if you haven’t read Ultimate Invasion for the proper introduction to this new universe, I recommend doing so. Another way to feed your anticipation? Check out Marvel’s trailer for Ultimate Universe:
