In Madden’s Franchise mode, there has always been the option to relocate a team, adding a touch of realism to the league simulation. In the real NFL, teams do relocate on occasion, as demonstrated by the Raiders moving from Oakland to Las Vegas and the Chargers moving from San Diego to Los Angeles. However, Madden 24 has recognized the need to enhance and refine the relocation process in its Franchise Mode. This shows their commitment to providing players with an even more immersive and authentic experience.

Relocation is not Restricted to Owners

Madden 24

Traditionally, in Franchise Mode, the relocation option was typically limited to the team owners. However, Madden has made a change to this system by allowing players to initiate relocations even while playing in the role of a coach. While some players may have reservations about this change, as in real life, team relocations are usually the prerogative of team owners, it’s understandable that this modification is appealing to many. It provides players with the opportunity to not only coach their team but also have a direct influence on its relocation and subsequent identity. This change adds a new layer of immersion and decision-making to the gameplay experience.

Madden’s Updated Locations

Madden may have a total of 34 cities, but there are 15 new cities to choose from in this game. The locations that they have added are listed below.

  • Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Anchorage, Alaska
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Canton, Ohio
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Louisville, Kentucky
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Montreal, Canada
  • Omaha, Nebraska
  • Paris, France
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Vancouver, Canada
  • Virginia Beach, Virginia

It’s clear that EA Sports wants to have a more international feel to the game adding locations like Argentina, Canada, Australia, France, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Japan. I do believe that the NFL will eventually expand in the future, but I don’t see them going to an international team any time soon.

Other Changes in Regard to Madden’s Relocation

These smaller changes encompass elements like team names, logos, uniforms, and more. It’s interesting to note that team names are not strictly tied to a specific city anymore, except for the Houston Oilers, which remain exclusive to Houston. This makes sense, as it would feel odd for a team called the Oilers to be in a different city other than Houston in the Madden game.

The changes to the relocation option in Franchise Mode for this game are relatively minor compared to other updates. However, it’s better than having no changes to the mode, and I’m glad that EA Sports is actively making adjustments. I hope that more additions and improvements are introduced to the Franchise mode over time. Nevertheless, as long as we enjoy playing the game, that’s what truly matters.

Madden 24 is available August 24 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Madden 24 currently only allows the old Madden 23 cities and team names? When is it going to be updated?

I have the very same issue. I was excited about the new cities, uniforms, and setup but my madden 24 relocation looks exactly like madden 23.
