Travel to the Forbidden Forest and finish what former student Richard Jackdaw started.

This quest is significant because it opens up the game, unlocking the map chamber and skill points for your wizard. Without further ado, here’s what to expect.

Spiders, Spiders, and More Spiders

Sorry arachnophobics. You deal with a lot of spiders on this one. With that said, be prepared. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to have some health potions on hand.

For defeating 8-legged beasts, take it slow and follow this guide:

  • Shooters
    • Prefers distanced attacks. Use fire spells to ignite them as they prepare to strike.
  • Scurriours
    • Specializes in close-up burrowing attacks. Cast Flipendo to pull them out of the ground and deal massive damage.
  • Matriarch
    • Spider with the most damage potential, as it breaks through shield charms. It’ll rear up before striking, so all you’ll have to do is avoid getting hit and cast Descendo.

If you’re still struggling, find out all there is to know about Hogwarts Legacy spiders here.

Jackdaw’s Rest Quest – Finding The Tomb

You begin by searching for the cave where Richard Jackdaw died. Depending on your house, this mission can vary. In any case, Jackdaw’s ghost will lead you to the edge of the forbidden forest, and you take it from there.

To begin, you’ll have to find the waterfall Jackdaw mentioned earlier in the mission. He helps you most of the way. He basically brings you to it, until he decides he can’t go any further. Then, all you have to do is turn left at the fork in the path, walk a short while, and eventually, you’ll bump right into Jackdaw’s tomb. At this point, you will be prompted to whisper a spell. However, before you can open the tomb, angry loyalists will stand in your way. No need to worry, defeating them is not so challenging.

Once that’s finished and you’re inside the tomb, you still have to find Jackdaw’s missing pages. You’ll wander down a path until you come across an open clearing like this.

Rebuilding The Bridge

Cast Revelio, then, hit all three glowing round locks. Next, the bridge will start to rebuild and a door will open. Take your time, there are lots of chests and loot to be found.

Once you’ve explored to your heart’s content, you still need to find those missing pages. Inside the cave are floating platforms you have to jump onto and travel on. To do so, cast Revelio and then Accio at the golden lock in the direction you wish to travel.

You will then be led into a combat area with, you guessed it, more spiders. Two matriarchs, in fact.

After you’re done kicking some serious spider butt, remember that bridge still needs some final repairs. So, search for the chest underneath the bridge. Once you find it, you’ll notice three port key targets. Hit all of those with the standard ‘R2’ spell in rapid succession, then the bridge will come together.

Entering The Map Chamber

Congrats! You’re one step closer to Jackdaw’s remains and those pages. Now all you have to do is cross the bridge and enter the map chamber. Immediately, you’ll find Jackdaw’s body and the missing pages. Gather those, but then get ready to defend yourself against ancient defenders.

  • Expelliarmus is the best way to win this battle. This will only temporarily rid them of their weapons, so be sure to take advantage and use this time to hit them with as many spells as you can.

After defeating the ancient defenders, you can relax. The quests combat section is over. All that’s left to do is investigate those glowing ancient magic traces. Doing so will open a doorway. Head through that. After this, the room will flood and you will think you’re about to drown, and all that diligent work was for nothing. But don’t worry, you won’t. With the map chamber discovered and the pages recovered, all that’s left to do is exit.

Please remember that Jackdaw’s Rest Quest is house-specific. This means that for every four houses, there are four unique ways to start this quest. For instance, a wizard from Slytherin will not do the same as a wizard from Ravenclaw at the start. However, all wizards, no matter how they got there, will end the quest by defeating the ancient defenders.

Well, what do you say young wizard? Think you have what it takes?

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
