Revealed at The Game Awards, Sony Santa Monica Studios unveiled the first look at brand new DLC for God of War: Ragnarök and it’s coming very soon and for free.
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla serves as an epilogue to the events of Ragnarök and sees players return as Kratos as he and Mimir venture to Valhalla on a deeply personal and reflective journey. Taking inspiration from the rogue-lite adventure genre, the trailer for Valhalla sees Kratos engaging with multiple enemies from Ragnarök, falling in battle, and trying again and again.
God of War Ragnarok DLC
Coming from PlayStation.Blog, Sony Santa Monica revealed how the mechanics will work in the game stating that “Kratos will have access to all his weapons and fully-upgraded skill trees at all times, but must commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage for each attempt. As you overcome the trials of Valhalla and explore its depths, you will choose between temporary Glyphs for which Stats to upgrade, which Perks to select, which Runic Attacks to wield, and more. Each attempt can play out differently based on your chosen rewards, so keep your strategy in mind when making selections!”
It’s worth noting that a Cyclops does show up in the trailer so maybe we’ll see more than just enemies from the Norse realms and others from Kratos’ time in Greece. Due to the cover art looking a lot like the God of War 2 cover art and the inclusion of a Cyclops, I think we will see more than just hints of Greece in this DLC and Kratos will come to terms with the decisions of his past. Maybe we will fight a younger version of Kratos? Sony Santa Monica does state that this DLC is a personal and reflective journey for Kratos, so who knows?
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is out on PS4 and PS5 on December 12th, 2023.
