Players are given very limited inventory space at the beginning of Final Fantasy 16. For example, a maximum of four small potions and three high potions can be held at a time. If players happen to find extra potions during their travels, they’ll be told they have “insufficient inventory space” to carry any more healing items. A potion in their inventory will then be used in order to make space for a new one. While this may not matter as much during the game’s earlier chapters, having limited inventory space can get frustrating for players as they encounter tougher enemies later on. If you’re finding yourself in need of extra healing items, here’s how to increase your potion inventory size.

How to Increase Potion Inventory Size

Final Fantasy 16 Character Owain During the "Weird Science" Side Quest, Which Will Increase Your Potion Inventory Size

You won’t be able to increase the number of potions you can use until you’ve reached the “Out of the Shadow” main quest and have unlocked Mid’s Dungeon, so if you’re not there yet, just bookmark this page and come back later. However, if you have gotten that far in the story, head to Mid’s workshop in The Hideaway and talk to her assistant named Owain. He’ll give you two side quests that will increase your inventory after completion.

Weird Science

During the “Weird Science” side quest, Owain tells Clive that he’s building a new invention that requires bomb ash. Since it can only be collected from a bomb king, he asks Clive if he can find the creature and then gather a few samples of bomb ash after slaying it. A notice on the hunting board reveals that one bomb king resides in The Crock in Sanbreque.

The quickest way to get there is by opening up your map and fast traveling to “The Dragon’s Aery” obelisk. After heading to The Crock, defeat the bomb king and collect the three bomb ash on the ground. Once you give them to Owain, you’ll unlock the treated potion satchel, which increases the maximum amount of consumables you can carry to the following:

  • Potions: 4 to 6
  • High Potions: 3 to 4
  • Strength Tonics: 2 to 3
  • Stoneskin Tonics: 2 to 3

Even Weirder Science

The second side quest will be unlocked after you’ve finished “Weird Science” and have also reached the “Across the Narrow” main quest. Once you’ve gotten that far, talk to Owain again to begin “Even Weirder Science,” which will require Clive to collect three spherical echoes for Owain’s latest invention. Players will have to travel to three fallen ruins and slay several woken enemies before they can obtain the echoes.

Thankfully, the locations of the fallen ruins are revealed on the map, so simply follow the markers to the ruins and defeat the enemies to collect the echoes. Giving them to Owain will unlock the expanded potion satchel, which increases the maximum amount of consumables you can carry to the following:

  • Potions: 6 to 8
  • High Potions: 4 to 5
  • Strength Tonics: 3 to 4
  • Stoneskin Tonics: 3 to 4

Hopefully, increasing your inventory size will help give you the upper hand in battles moving forward.
