The concept of a New Game Plus mode is not unheard of in the RPG genre, as high-profile games such as Persona 5 and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt have more straightforward New Game Plus modes, which typically include being able to keep your gear/stats while being able to run through the game again, a few others have expanded on this idea by adding new story elements, such as Nier and Nier Automata. One developer that has yet to delve into the new game plus realm is Bethesda. That is about to change with their upcoming release, Starfield.

New Game Plus Will Have “An Exciting Twist”

According to an interview with GQ, Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Games Studio, Todd Howard confirmed that Starfield will feature a New Game Plus mode, making it the first Bethesda title to do so. Howard does not divulge many details, stating, “Starfield delivers [Bethesda’s] most immersive role-playing since 2006’s Oblivion. It gives you the flexibility and options to carve out a unique identity, and even adds a unique and exciting twist on New Game+ to incentivize continued and repeat play.”

Starfield Alien Tech

We do not know how this “unique and exciting twist” to the New Game Plus formula will change subsequent playthroughs of Starfield. Considering that the main story is roughly 30-40 hours long, it might be a new and fresh way to experience the Sci-fi RPG.

Starfield releases on PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6th or August 31st for those who have preordered the Premium Edition.
