The Disney Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is—or instead, was—a luxury hotel on the Disney World property in Florida, part of the company’s ongoing Star Wars expansion. It was a new kind of hotel experience, an expansive and immersive one meant to be a theme park ride and a hotel in one. However, the attraction has been canceled as of May 26, 2023, and will be shut down for good on September 30.

The Final Star Wars Voyages on the Halcyon

Why did Disney decide to cancel the Galactic Starcruiser? In short, it’s due to budgeting and lack of interest. In its rush to imagine a new way to experience Star Wars, Disney may have taken on too much too fast. With the company seeking ways to cut costs, it decided to nix the Starcruiser after the low turnout and high project cost after only a few months of operation. Likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people weren’t exactly enthusiastic about paying $1,200+ per person per night to stay on the Starcruiser, regardless of the theme and immersion. The disastrous fan feedback from the recent Star Wars films likely has something to do with the lack of enthusiasm for the hotel experience, with many not necessarily being in the mood for an adventure based on Rey and Kylo Ren.

Whatever the case, the attraction’s website officially states the Galactic Starcruiser hotel is not accepting new bookings, and it will close for good on September 30. Another statement also says, “However, availability may still be subject to change and a very limited number of rooms could become available for new bookings from time to time. Please continue to check the website for any updates to availability.” So who knows?
