Battle through Cabal-filled skyscrapers, master the Strand, and vanquish foes with new Exotics in Destiny 2: Lightfall.
Bungie is taking players out of the wilderness and into a thriving secret metropolis on Neptune called Neomuna. The Lightfall Expansion also brings a new sub-class for Warlocks, Titans, and Hunters. This sub-class, called the Strand, gives Guardians new abilities that make them well-suited for waging war in a city. Not to mention the updates that have been made to the crafting system, new raids and dungeons, and tweaks to weapons.
Destiny 2 Lightfall Release Date

Destiny 2: Lightfall releases on February 28th, 2023. This date coincides with the start of Season 20 and will set the tone for the rest of the year. But don’t expect details about Lightfall’s story to be forthcoming from Bungie, as weaving secret narratives and easter eggs into expansions has become a franchise staple.
Destiny 2: Lightfall Raid and Dungeon

Bungie has announced a new Raid that’s also dropping with Lightfall, saying on their website, “A haunting presence has been detected within [REDACTED]. Guardians must explore the mystery and discover everything they can about this threat.” We can expect this Raid to be playable soon after Lightfall drops so that players have time to play through the story first. Two new Dungeons will also be playable during Season 21 and Season 23, available to those who purchase Lightfall and an annual pass.
Destiny 2: Lightfall Trailers

So far, three trailers have been released by Bungie. The Destiny 2: Lightfall Reveal Trailer was released in August 2022. The second trailer was released at The Game Awards in December 2022 and the third trailer was released in January 2023. The third trailer is designed to showcase Neomuna, the neon-clad battleground on Neptune. You can find all three videos below.
Destiny 2: Lightfall Strand Sub-Class

Strand is a darkness-based sub-class that allows Guardians to, “reach into the darkness and pluck at the threads of consciousness.” Guardians can manipulate the fabric of reality by pulling on the threads that hold it together. Warlocks will have access to the Broodweaver sub-class. Broodweavers can, “twist Strand into sentient creatures to do their bidding.” Hunters will have access to the Threadrunner sub-class. Threadrunners can, “grasp threads and weave new ones to dart through the air, finding the fastest way between two points.” Titans will have access to the Berserker sub-class. Berserkers can, “tear at Strand to manifest claws.” Nobody wants to stand opposite a Titan with claws.

Neomuna on Neptune

According to Bungie’s website, Neomuna is a, “technologically advanced secret city,” on Neptune. Bungie released the Neomuna Environment Trailer, so if you’re interested in seeing more, take a look at the trailer above. The trailer displays beautiful skylines, a vast web of city streets, and eye-catching interiors.
In the opening moments of the Neomuna Environment Trailer, Ghost says, “We always thought we were the last ones left.” It seems that the human city Neomuna was hidden from both the forces of light and dark until recently. Protected by warriors known as Cloud Striders, this might make Neomuna a potent ally against the darkness, or are they playing their own game?
Updated Loadout and Mod Manager

With the release of Destiny 2: Lightfall, Bungie is adding an in-game loadout and mod manager. In the past, Bungie has allowed 3rd-party developers to create their Loadout and Mod managers via API, and that doesn’t seem to be changing. However, Destiny 2’s loadout and mod manager haven’t been as robust as some third-party offerings- Bungie is setting out to change that. Players will be able to change their entire loadout and customize their character from a single screen. Then, they will be able to switch between their customized loadouts as they jump from activity to activity.
Destiny 2: Lightfall will also release with a Guardian Rank system. Guardians will be able to climb through eleven brackets, gaining rank as their skills grow and by helping newer players complete tasks. Guardians will also be able to award other players with commendations, further proving a Guardian’s prowess.
Destiny 2: Lightfall Enemies

Destiny 2: Lightfall’s major villain is called, The Witness. Calus has become his disciple and the Shadow Legion are his Cabal enforcers. Through Calus’ discipleship, the Shadow Legion has gained the frightening ability to suppress a Guardian’s light. Fighting alongside the Cabal are imposing figures known as the Tormentors. Tormentors wield massive scythes and act as mini-bosses throughout the game. Not only can Tormentors attack at range with special abilities, but they are also devastating at close range.
Destiny 2: Lightfall Exotics and Weapons

Currently, the only confirmed Exotic for Destiny 2: Lightfall is the Quicksilver Storm which is made available to those who pre-order the expansion and an annual pass. Quicksilver Storm, pictured above, is a Cloud Strider Auto Rifle that utilizes nanite technology to, “turn into a Rocket Launcher that turns into a Grenade Launcher.” It’s safe to say that the Exotics that drop during Lightfall are going to maintain the same level of hyper-tech flair.
Pre-order the Lightfall expansion and an annual pass and you’ll also get an Exotic Sparrow. And even though media of this new Sparrow hasn’t been explicitly shared by Bungie, this may be the same Sparrow used in the Neomuna Environment Trailer.

Lightfall is an expansion that aims to reinvigorate Destiny 2; the stakes are higher, the setting sparkles, and the Strand provides new flavor to all three classes. The developers have consistently listened to players’ desires and strived to build a game that players enjoy. Destiny 2: Lightfall looks to be another great installment to the Destiny 2 landscape.
Destiny 2: Lightfall will be available on February 28th on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
