In August of 2022, it was revealed that Deadpool 3 was happening and that Hugh Jackman would officially return as the fan-favorite Canuck, Wolverine. Jackman retired from the role, and from X-Men films entirely, after James Mangold’s Logan gave us the final nail in the coffin for his character. He thought it was time to put the claws away.

So fans were understandably ecstatic to hear he’d be returning. And now, those that love Logan know what to look for in Deadpool 3. That’s right, we’re not only getting a spectacular cast for the third outing of the Merc with a Mouth; we’re also getting Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine in his classic yellow-and-blue costume.

Fans may remember the costume being teased in a deleted scene back in 2013’s The Wolverine; it created a bit of controversy when it wasn’t in the film, leading many to hope it would be in Logan — seemingly the final time Jackman would ever play the character.

Deadpool 3: X-Men (Re)unite

It’s wild to think that Hugh Jackman has been portraying this character for over two decades. The only actor that holds that acclaim is Patrick Stewart since he returned as Prof. X in Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness in 2022.

And Jackman isn’t the only returning star. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are apparently reprising their roles as Daredevil and Elektra from the 2000s movies of the same names; and James Marsden, Famke Jansen and Halle Berry of 1999’s X-Men are rumored to return as Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm respectively. Perhaps we’ll get to see them in comics-accurate costumes, too!

On Twitter, director Shawn Levy shared his comments on this childlike passion coming to life.

Nearly a decade before the MCU became ‘Marvel’ to mainstream audiences, X-Men graced cinemas worldwide first, introducing many newcomers to the marvelous world of Deadpool, Logan, and so many more.

Deadpool 3 is slashing into theatres on May 3rd, 2024.
