The fourteenth game in Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed franchise is coming later this year. There’s a lot to know about Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Here’s what we know so far.

What’s The Gameplay Like?

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is set in feudal Japan, allowing the gamer to choose what kind of warrior they want to be. In this, you can choose to be an adept shinobi assassin by playing as Naoe. Or you can be a samurai by choosing to play as Yasuke.

Each option affords you different abilities, fully depending on which character you play as. In Shadows, when you play as Naoe you are more agile and can use the shadows as stealth and cover. Your weapons will also be different. Naoe has smoke bombs, a kunai, and a shuriken.

If you should play as Yasuke, choosing the samurai path, you will have combat attacks rooted more in brute strength. With this option, you are able to use a katana, bows, and more weapons to take down your opponents.

So, essentially, if you choose Naoe and the shinobi path; you’re choosing the more stealth based gameplay. If you choose Yasuke and being a samurai, you’ll be choosing the combat heavy path.

This system is much like Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, which allowed the player to switch between playing as twins Jacob and Evie. Both had different strengths and weaknesses, making the game play fresh and interesting depending on what quest you were completing.

As with other Creed games, these characters are based on real historical figures. While not much is known about Yasuke, the Ubisoft game developers did their best to fill in the gaps and fit known information into the game.

In this video, they describe their thought processes beautifully.
