In the series, we see two ideas fighting for the supremacy of the Assassin’s Creed world. This war between the values of the Assassins (freedom) and Templars (order and peace) has been going on for thousands of years and has consumed many lives. Is there an explanation that can give a clear-cut answer as to which value is correct? Read this article, and you might understand this dilemma and get a solution to this question.
Examining The Assassin’s Creed

The assassins value freedom and innocents above all else, which is why they go on about killing so many Templars who would restrain the freedom the populace is owed. The assassins are taught not to enjoy the killing of their enemies, as when they assassinate an enemy, they need to give them a brief ceremony to honor the dead. While they are killers and loath their enemies, they still hold human life precious. Assassins are willing to cause chaos to free the people of the yoke of tyrants, which results in many people’s deaths.
The Templar philosophy
The Templars might appear that they do not value human lives as much as the assassins in Assassin’s Creed, but that is a misunderstanding. The Templars want to safeguard humanity and preserve human lives in a world of their own creation, which would result in human deaths to lessen. While the assassins think of how the government is in as a secondhand thought, the Templars realize the governments of the world are essential to forge a better future for the world. However, they are not patriotic and would only ally with a government if they believed it would ensure order for the many and the few. The Templars despise the empires and governments of the world, as mentioned by the Grandmaster of the Templars in Black Flag. They do not aim to take control of power because they are greedy, but it is a side effect of their wielding that power, as power corrupts all.
Who should you side with?
If I believed in the Assassin’s creed, then I would say that you should choose your own cause and face the consequences of your actions. Assassins are taught from birth to follow the creed and never break it. In this regard, the assassins follow a strict dogma, just as the Templars do. They would both offer no real choice, as it would only be death or servitude to their cause. They are both similar in this regard, and they are similar in many other ways, such as how they view religion. They both want to heal the world but would damage it in some way as a result. If I were to choose, then I would choose neither as the price of freedom/order is too high to pay. But what do you think of both organizations? Do you think one is superior to the other, or are they both equally flawed?
