When you were playing competitive videogames with your friends as a kid, did you ever unplug someone else’s controller mid game? I have, multiple times. I was a sore loser back then and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Well, maybe just a little. But today, people are finding ways to do a similar thing but virtually. That’s where the proximity chat feature comes in.
Proximity Chat in Warzone 2
Proximity chat has been in multiplayer games for years. However, it’s become one of the most popular features in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Of course, you can use good old game chat to communicate with your teammates, but with proximity chat, you can chat with enemy players as well to play a little psychological warfare. As you can imagine, a lot of hilarity can ensue from this feature.
Warzone 2 streamer I Got Puppies used proximity chat to turn off his opponent’s Xbox by saying into his mic, “Xbox, turn off.” He posted a YouTube short of this technique.
Even though it appears some players were disconnected, there has been some speculation as to whether or not it was really due to I Got Puppies yelling into the mic. In order to accomplish this feat, your opponent has to not only have both proximity chat and voice commands on, but the sound has to be coming from their speakers. All things considered; the chances of it happening are pretty slim.
Still, that hasn’t stopped players from trying it. Recently, YouTuber TimTheTatman tried and seemingly proved successful.
What do you think? Have you tried this technique?
Call of Duty Warzone 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
