With the arrival of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, you may be hankering for a new mount.

Luckily, the new continent — the Dragon Isles — is full of new potential steeds.

And yet, some are harder to acquire than others.

With this in mind, here are five rare mounts that you can find on the Dragon Isles in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, as well as how to acquire them.

1. Lizi’s Reins

“Nothing will stop Lizi from her mission to eat all the world’s fruit.”

In order to start unlocking this mount, you will need to do a few things first:

  • Firstly, you will have to be level 70 and achieve Renown Rank 9 with the Maruuk Centaur faction.
  • You will have to complete the optional questline “Initiate’s Day Out” that can be found in the Ohn’ahran Plains.

Once you’ve done both of these things, a series of five daily quests will be available to you, offered by Initiate Radiya. Each of these daily quests requires you to collect a number of specific items from creatures on the Dragon Isles. The quests also require 150 Dragon Isles Resources on top of the various items, which change daily.

Here’s what you need to know about the five daily quests:

  • 1: Collect 20 Fluorescent Fluid from any insect creature in the Dragon Isles.
  • 2: Retrieve 20 High-Fiber Leaf from any plant creature in the Dragon Isles.
  • 3: Obtain 10 Thousandbite Pirahna, which can be fished up only in the Dragon Isles.
  • 4: Deliver 20 Woolly Mountain Pelt from any mammoth, sheep, or yak on the Dragon Isles.
  • 5: Purchase 1 Meluun’s Green Curry from Ohn Meluun in the Ohn’ahran Plains.

After you complete these five daily quests, a final quest will become available, where you will receive Lizi’s Reins. And while you’re in the Ohn’ahran Plains, you might want to make a quick pit-stop for the second mount on our list.

2. Divine Kiss of Ohn’Ahra

Much like the previously mentioned Lizi’s Reins, this mount becomes unlockable once you reach level 70 and Renown Rank 9 with the Maruuk Centaur faction.

You will need to complete the optional questline “Sneaking Out.” After you complete that questline, you can speak to Godoloto in the Ohn’Iri Springs.

Once you can do that, you will need to gather 3 Stolen Breath of Ohn’ahra. These items can drop from the final boss of the Nokhud Offensive Dungeon, Balakar Khan. Currently, all estimations point to a 30% drop rate, increased by Maruuk Centaur Renown. Once you have the 3 Stolen Breaths of Ohn’ahra, you can take a quest from Godoloto.

This quest requires you to take the 3 Stolen Breaths to Ohn’ara, along with an Essence of Awakening and a “fine” Exultant Incense. The Essence of Awakening can be purchased for 50 Dragon Isles Supplies and 1 Occasional Sand. The Exultant Incense is crafted by Alchemists, though the quest specifically requires a “fine” Exultant Incense. This means that you will need a rank 3 Incense, instead of a rank 1 or 2 Incense.

When you have all of these items, you then can fly up to Ohn’ara. She resides at the top of the mountain that overlooks Maruukai in the Ohn’aran Plains. Once you turn in the quest, you will be awarded the mount! This mount in particular is quite unique, as it is not a mount that you ride upon. Instead, much like the Sandstone Drake from Cataclysm, you transform into the Divine Kiss of Ohn’ahra.

3. Temperamental Skyclaw

“Slyverns are rarely comfortable acting as mounts. Only those willing to feed their gluttonous appetites and keep a careful eye on them should attempt to ride.”

This mount is obtained after completing every optional questline in the Azure Span. When that’s done, you will be awarded with the achievement “Sojourner of the Azure Span.” In order to obtain the Temperamental Skyclaw mount, you will need to go talk to Zon’Wogi. But before you do so, you may want to gather some cooked food first. You will need them in order to receive the mount from Zon’Wogi. The items you will need are 20 of each of the following:

  • Flash Frozen Meat
  • Gnolan’s House Special
  • Tuskarr Jerky

The good news is that the Tuskarr Jerky and Gnolan’s House Special are crafted by cooks and can readily be purchased at the Auction House for a rather low price.

The more difficult part is when you gather the Flash Frozen Meat. These only drop off of the gnolls in the Azure Span. While their drop rate isn’t too low, you may find it easier to purchase these off of the Auction House as well. They may be a little bit more expensive, however.

Once you have the appropriate amount of each of the three items listed, you can speak to Zon’Wogi. Specifically, you will need to ask him about his slyvern. When you do, he will give you the Temperamental Skyclaw!

4. Slumbering Worldsnail Shell

In order to unlock this mount, you will first need to complete the “The Shadow of His Wings” questline in the Waking Shores. It is one of the optional questlines outside of the main questline, so make sure to pick it up if you want this mount.

Once you complete this questline, you can find Igys the Believer near the Obsidian Citadel. Igys the Believer has a quest of his own that unlocks with the completion of “The Shadow of His Wings,” which requires a Restored Obsidian Key in order to complete.

Completing Igys’ quest gives you a chest of goods that has a chance to drop a Worldbreaker Membership. This unique item allows you to become a member of the unfriendly NPC faction called the Worldbreakers for two hours. While the buff is active, you can obtain a currency known as Magmotes from defeating enemies around the Obsidian Citadel.

Additionally, while you are a member of the Worldbreakers, you will be able to speak to Dealer Vexil. You can find Dealer Vexil in a cave amongst the hills around the Obsidian Citadel itself, and you can buy the mount from him. The buff that gives you membership in the Worldbreakers only lasts for two hours, but you can buy a new Membership from Vexil for 20 Magmotes.

My personal recommendation is to buy a membership before the first one runs out when you feel like the duration is running low.

Once you have gathered 1000 Magmotes, you only need to return to Dealer Vexil and buy the Slumbering Worldsnail Shell for the same amount. And while you are in the area, you can likely pick up the last mount on our list too!

5. Loyal Magmammoth

“Liberated from the Qalashi and harnessed by your ingenuity, this magmammoth is ready to lava stomp wherever you want to go.”

For this mount, you do not need to complete any optional questlines. Instead, you will need to become exalted with both Sabellian and Wrathion in the Obsidian Citadel.

This is no simple task and will likely take a few weeks to get done. But once you have done that, a pair of items will become available — one from each faction’s vendor. You can buy each of these items for 800 gold after reaching Exalted with the vendor’s appropriate faction.

  • Wrathion: Sturdy Obsidian Glasses
  • Sabellian: Netherforged Lavaforged Boots

After you have obtained both of these items, you can take them to a separate but nearby vendor named Yries Lightfingers. Yries sells a Magmammoth Harness, which you can purchase by turning in both the Glasses and Boots you had purchased earlier.

Once you have the Harness in hand, the fun part begins. You will need to go find some of the Qalashi outside of the Obsidian Citadel. And when you do, you will notice some Tame Magmammoths nearby.

In order to obtain the mount, you will need to kill the Magmammoth’s master — usually a nearby Qalashi NPC. Slay them all, just to be sure.

You will know the Tame Magmammoth will be ready for you when it turns friendly and can be ridden. Once riding it, use the Magmammoth Harness, and you will find it added to your mount inventory as a permanent mount. Ride free, Magmammoth!

Five New Mounts for You to Try

One detail that should be noted is that the ideal mode of travel in the Dragon Isles is via the rather well-regarded Dragonriding system, and the four Dragonriding drakes are made with that system in mind.

The zones are constructed with this system in mind, and normal flying mounts cannot fly in the Dragon Isles as of the current patch, 10.0.5. However, the mounts on this list can be used everywhere else in Azeroth and beyond.

Having a rare mount is a point of accomplishment that you can show off to your peers and guildmates. After all, fashion and collecting are the true endgame of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, and only the finest rare items will do.

Ride forth, and happy hunting!
